Aizu Traditional Lacquer Ware “Sabie” Workshop
Takao Togashi, Aizu Nurishi Ichitomi
Friday, October 25 and Saturday, October 26
Both from 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
*Registration will be announced at a later date.
You will draw a pattern on a 21cm square plate with a rust painting aperture tube, take it back to the studio, and finish it with Togashi's unique technique combining traditional Aizu iron rust painting and shibuichi nuri-e (a technique that is used for rust painting). The finished product will be a shibunichi. (Finishing time is about 1.5 months.)
Rust painting is a decorative technique for rust painting in which rust is heaped up.
It is finished to give the impression of cast rusted iron. The rust is mixed with grit and raw lacquer, then mixed with water to loosen the rust, and placed in a dye cylinder and squeezed out to create the pattern on the cylinder.
